The San Domenico Palace, a property that needs no introduction. You might recognize this hotel as the location of HBO’s hit The White Lotus However, the origins of San Domenico Palace in Taormina reach back to the year 1203!
It was the then home of founding of the Dominican religious order by Saint Dominic in Toulouse, France. It remained a convent for monks for several centuries, and was eventually purchased by Prince Cerami who began converting it into a hotel.
Today it is a dazzling star in the Four Seasons collection. You can find traces of its rich past all throughout the property…. like the stunning courtyard which was once the cloister and the small doorways in the original building. It’s is truly an amalgamation of history and modernism. I was also lucky enough to visit during the stunning Dolce and Gabanna pop up!
Touring this property was an experience in itself. Only part of it is the original structure and must maintain its historical integrity. Walking through the halls felt like a mixture of stepping back in time and stepping into luxury. It is the setting for some stunning wedding ceremonies, with views overlooking the powerful Mt Etna. Every part of the San Dominico Palace felt truly unique to any other hotel. It's impossible to duplicate the rich history of this property and it's truly one of a kind.
